Function and Application

Burn In Boards are specialized test platforms for printed circuit boards. They simulate real-world operating conditions, including heat cycles and electrical stress, to ensure that PCBs can withstand long-term use.

Key functions include:

Types of Burn-In Test Processes

Burn-in testing ensures that PCBs and components can withstand extreme conditions. Semicon offers multiple test methodologies depending on the application and stress requirements:

Highly Accelerated Stress Test combines high temperature (105°C), high relative humidity (≈85%), and elevated atmospheric pressure (up to 4 atm). This accelerated testing can yield results within 96–100 hours, providing quick insight into reliability.

Temperature Humidity Bias maintains conditions of 85°C and 85% relative humidity while bias loads are applied to the components. Results are available within approximately 1000 hours, simulating long-term environmental stress.

High Temperature Operating Life tests reliability by operating devices under elevated temperatures for extended periods. Components are subjected to electrical stress at high temperatures to simulate long-term operational life.

Temperature Cycling is when units are exposed to repeated extreme high and low temperature transitions. This cyclic testing stresses materials and solder joints, helping to identify weaknesses caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
